STS is a critical device in UPS system design by increasing the reliability of electricity supply to equipment:
- Creates redundancy option by linking to 2 UPS with one on hot-standby.
- Connects primary power input to UPS and secondary input to main AC supply.
- Can be used mass maintenance by-pass switch.
- Detects and diverts abnormal load (either too low or too high) automatically from UPS to reserve power source either main AC supply or   another standby ups.

Features

Zero-time transfer in synchronized mode
Two power Inputs, one Output
Synchronization of AC power sources
Hybrid static switch topology design
Surge protection
Overload protection
Backfeed protection (3,6kVA models)
Optional management software

Hybrid Static Switch Topology Design

Contronetix STS is adopting Hybrid static-switch topology design for complete compliance with IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) code62040-3 ,6.2.1.3 : "The advantages of hybrid switches is that they possess the merit of both the electronic & mechanical switches."

Many STS are either using pure mechanical or electronic (solidstate) switching mechanism device. Both methods have its advantages & disadvantages as summarized below:

  Advantages Disadvantages
Mechanical Switch Very high tolerance to overload
isolation between utility main
and UPS
Long transfer switching time. Not acceptable for critical load such as server
Electronic Switch Extreme low transfer time - Very low tolerance to current overload.
- No isolation between utility main & UPS
- Power loss
- Highly comparative current between 2 power sources leading to low reliability
Hybrid Switch - Extreme low transfer time
- Good inverter UPS isolation
- No power loss
- High reliability
- Back-feed protection
- Full compliance with IEC requirements
NON.

Contronetix STS uses electronic switch to carry current load for a very short time until the mechanical switch is activated. Thus, the STS electronic circuitry is not damaged by excessive load leading to higher durability & reliability.
